Update on Shemaroo Entertainment Ltd. IPO

Unlike previous issues this time I too got allotment and as expected and pre-decided I booked profit in Shemaroo @ 172. Some nimble-footed people claim to offload their stake @ 180.
The company was facing a damn working-capital (WC) mismanagement problem and to cope- up with this problem, this issue was floated.
For a sales-figure of Rs. 264 crore, there is cash-in-hand of meager Rs. 0.9 crore, while Accounts receivable (AR) is as high as Rs. 140.
Inventory days too were as high as 275 and AR collection period was almost 5 months.
A higher AR collection period makes a company prone on the solvency frontin case a few of its debtors default.
The OCF of the company was negative and the only hope was the re-rating of the company in future due to the proceeds of this issue which was supposed to rectify the WC mismanagement.
Apart from the financials, the company is having perpetual-rights mostly for older titles and limited rights for newer titles.
The co. should concentrate on the streaming business and should not rely heavily on sites like YouTube which gets banned in various countries especially in those of Indian-sub-continent where piracy too is at its pinnacle.
If this company wants to flourish in future then the best way is to concentrate on the streaming business model.

Year 2013- The Top Five Best Returns

The aforementioned stocks came out with the best returns in the calendar year 2013. Barring Ajanta Pharmaceuticals, all other stocks are either overpriced or having not so good fundamentals.
Ajanta Pharma's fair price is around Rs. 730 and at price levels above this, accumulation can be done in small quantities.
Though Vaibhav Global saw its Q2 net-profit increasing six times but this stock is too over-priced.

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala Portfolio Performance (Diwali to Diwali)

This is how big bull's portfolio fared in the aforementioned period-

Top 20 best Diwali to Diwali Share Returns

This Diwali  when Sensex hit its all time high, it is worthwhile to pinpoint scrips that outperformed the benchmark index by a significant margin. The benchmark Sensex has given a 14 % return from its level during the last Diwali.
The following shares have clearly outperformed the index.

Stocks that Defied the Decline

Since the 20th May 2013 when Nifty-the broad-based index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE)- was at 6,200 levels, the index has tumbled by around 7.4 % but despite this some stocks succeeded to give lucrative returns.
The following list ranks those stocks in descending order of their returns.

Don't Follow Them Blindly

Any veteran shall say, just blindly following the big guns of the capital markets will leave you nowhere. And the same comes true when we look at the performance of the big bull Rakesh Jhunjhunwala’s portfolio in the fourth quarter of the last fiscal.

For the aforesaid period Nifty- the benchmark index of the National Stock Exchange, was declined by just 4.5% while some stocks from the Big B’s portfolio declined as much as in the range of 40-70% for the same period.

Small investors often overlook the rationale behind investment, the entry price of the investment and the time-horizon envisaged by these capital market honchos and blindly start buying shares and eventually end up repenting.

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala had recently bought shares of Titan Industries at a price which was about around 150 times of his first purchase(of the same stock).

This means, the first batch of shares had given him a whopping return of 15,000 % and this is why even a major price-drop from the last purchase price keeps him unperturbed.

Penny Stock & Freak Traders

Birla Cotsyn India Ltd. is a penny stock which is presently trading in the 10-15 paisa range.

What makes this price-range lucrative and intriguing?
If someone buys this stock at 10 paisa  and succeeds in selling it at 15 paisa , he makes a profit of 50% that too in a day or a few more.

If someone is fortunate enough to secure this 50 % return in a week and  when this return is annualized comes as a whopping 2607 %.

Compare this with the FD return which is presently only 9% per annum !

But wait !

On the flip side, if someone who had bought this stock at 15 paisa and liquidates his holding at 10 paisa (for whatsoever reason) loses 33 % of his capital.

For past few days stock is trading in 10-15 paisa range

Hopeful traders voraciously try to buy at 10 paisa and attempts to sell at 15 paisa but only a few succeeds to do so.

There are a large number of buyers who everyday place orders to buy this stock at 5 paisa.

A snap of market depth window
By the time of writing this post, there were around 2.37 buyers for a single seller.
Trading in this stock is very difficult and only few lakhs of shares get traded out of a couple of crore orders.

Morale is, trading in this stock is a high-risk & high-gain proposition and trading in this scrip being illiquid, a lot depends on your luck.

NBCC Target Achieved

Last time while discussing NBCC here, I had expected the scrip to cross Rs. 180 mark and the stock surprisingly achieved its target much before what was anticipated.
It has given an absolute return of around 32 % in a period less than 3 months.

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala Portfolio performance in 2012

The year 2012 may not be called as a favourable year for the big bull's portfolio with only a few stocks in his portfolio beating the returns of benchmark indices while a many gave negative returns.

The top performer was the once beaten-down DB reality share which came out with a lucrative 216 % return.

With India opening for the FDI in multi-brand retail, Pantaloon Retail saw its share price getting doubled.
Geometric  Ltd., a software services and consultancy company from the Godrej camp, too saw its share price doubling in the calendar year 2012.
